Trails
of the Coastside & Northern Peninsula is the
first detailed trail map of the many parks and beaches between San Francisco,
Pacifica, and Half Moon Bay.
Side 1 shows GGNRA's Fort Funston, Milagra Ridge, and Sweeney Ridge areas; San Bruno Mountain, San Pedro Valley, and Junipero Serra County Parks, and the popular Sawyer Camp Trail along San Francisco's scenic Peninsula Watershed. The north end of the map shows several lesser-known parks in San Francisco: Lake Merced, Stern Grove, Mt. Davidson, McLaren Park, and Candlestick Point State Recreation Area.
Side 2 continues south along the coast, showing McNee Ranch State Park (on the southwest slope of Montara Mountain), Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, Pillar Point (Maverick's surfing area), Half Moon Bay State Beach, and Burleigh H. Murray Ranch State Park. You can stay overnight at Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel and Francis Beach Campground.

Highlights of the Coastside:
At GGNRA's Sweeney Ridge you can still follow the steps of Gaspar de Portolá's
expedition, which accidentally "discovered" San Francisco Bay in 1769.
Though the view towards the Bay has changed almost beyond recognition, the immediate
landscape looks much as it always has -- you may spy coyotes and brush rabbits
amidst the coastal scrub and flowery meadows. The ridge offers fabulous views
after winter storms; it's also nice when the summer fog hides the busy world
and reveals only the nearest patch of flowers.

park highlights, agency rules, a list of recommended guidebooks, and more.
